An Expansion of Hope
For 30 years, the Gabriel Network Maternity Home has provided housing, hope and community for women and children in the Washington, D.C., area. Now, Knights are leading a statewide campaign to renovate and expand the Gabriel House in Bowie, Maryland. “This exists so that we might offer love and support to women who find themselves in challenging personal situations,” said Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori, who blessed the maternity home on May 28. “It exists to help us accompany them so that they might bring their children into the world and so that their children might have a good strong start in life.”

A Back-to-School Boost
Under the strain of war, families preparing children for the new school year also face the usual burden of school supply expenses. To help meet the need, more than 50 Knights of Columbus councils across Ukraine — with financial support from the Supreme Council and the Ukraine Solidarity Fund — organized a back-to-school initiative this August, distributing more than 1,200 packages of supplies to young students.

This year, the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which affirms the right to life as both “unalienable” and “endowed by our Creator.” Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade three and a half years ago, abortion continues to deny that right to more than 1 million U.S. children every year. Last week, Knights of Columbus and their families joined tens of thousands of pro-life Americans for the 53rd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year’s march, “Life is a Gift,” underscored the inherent dignity of every human person from the moment of conception.
Because ‘Life is a Gift’
Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori, and other members of the Knights of Columbus Board of Directors joined tens of thousands of pro-life demonstrators — including Knights from across the country — in Washington, D.C., for the 53rd annual March for Life on Friday, Jan. 23.

‘Living the Truth in Love’
The Knights of Columbus mourns the passing of Russell Shaw, a towering figure in Catholic media who served as the Order’s director of public information from 1987 to 1997. His “Washington” column — originally titled “Washington Report” — ran in Columbia for more than four decades, from 1966 to 2006. A member of Our Lady of Victory Council 11487 in Washington, D.C., Shaw died Jan. 6 at age 90 in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Champions of Love
More than 2,000 young people gathered for the fourth annual Life Fest — a joyful pro-life rally and celebration before the March for Life. This year’s event, cosponsored by the Knights of Columbus and the Sisters of Life, was held in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just outside the capital. Beginning at 6 a.m., it featured live musical performances, dynamic speakers and Eucharistic adoration, and concluded with Mass celebrated by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori.

A Life for the Poorest
A member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and a Knight, Father Bill Petrie has spent his life following in the footsteps of St. Damien of Molokai by serving the poorest of the poor — first in India beside St. Teresa of Calcutta for 25 years, and later in Molokai, Hawaii, where St. Damien famously ministered to leprosy patients. Among the great saints who inspired Father Petrie’s life of service is Blessed Michael McGivney, who was “the role model for me as a very special person that God was going to use.”

Committed to Life
In July 2025, the Knights of Columbus sponsored its 2,000th ultrasound machine through the Order’s Ultrasound Initiative, donating a mobile unit to A Best Choice Mobile Ultrasound and Pregnancy Resource Center in Chantilly, Virginia. “This 2,000th ultrasound says that we are committed to life. We always have been and we always will be,” said Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly during a visit to the mobile unit in August, shortly before the Supreme Convention. “We’re not going to stop, because each one of these ultrasounds saves hundreds of lives.”

‘Life Is Everything’
Michał and Angelika Steciak, honored as the Knights of Columbus International Family of the Year in 2021, witness to human dignity in a deeply personal way. Their commitment to life led them to adopt two children, including a son with Down syndrome, while also helping to establish a children’s hospice in Kielce, Poland. “Every child teaches us something,” said Angelika. “We want to teach children about life, but our children teach us that life is everything.”
