Dear Parishioners:
All of us can take comfort in the example of Peter always returning to the Lord after he makes a mess out of everything!
I have said this many times before, but I will say it again – I love Peter and his getting things wrong then gettingthings really right.
Peter reminds me of my ability to say yes to God's call in all my weakness and imperfections.
Jesus comissions Peter in today's Gospel to succeed Him as shepherd of the flock when he says: "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" Peter responds: "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus tells him: "Feed my lambs." He goes on to ask him two more times and tells Peter: "Tend my sheep." And finally: "Feed my sheep."
Peter is forgiven for his three fold denialof Christ with theese three questions and he is commissioned Peter to succeed him as shepherd of the flock. later when Peter is speaking to bishops he appointed he tells them: "Be shepherds of the flock that God gave you..." (1 Peter 5:2) The word Pastor is Latin for shepherd. As your Pastor, I am a shepherd sharing the authority of the bishiop who is in succession sharing the authority that Peter handed down that he received from Christ.
As we continue to celebrate the Resurrectionof Jesus in this Easter Season, let us pray for the leaders of the Church. Pray for Pope Francis, Bishop Thomas, for me, and for the new pastor of St. Augustine. Pray thay we will feed the sheep that God has given to our care! Jesus also forgave Peter his sins and did not throw them back in his face. He does the smae for all of us.
Congratulations to our young people who receive their First Holy Communion this weekend! May God bless and give you the strength to follow Him as you come to be strengthened by the Eucharist each week!
Peace,
Fr. Doug

FROM THE SCHOOL
Congratulations to the children receiving their First Holy Communion this weekend. May you always know the peace of Jesus, the light of his love, and the joy of his life within you!
In the month of May, we honor Mary who was dedicated to bringing the Savior to humanity. Now that she is in Heaven, she continues to bring our concerns to her Son. Catholics over the centuries have turned to the Rosary for miraculous help in seemingly impossible situations. I feel very blessed can share this Catholic devotion and powerful lifelong prayer tradition with our students.
